The mission of the Graphic Design Occupational Program

To offer students with diverse backgrounds a career-oriented education in graphic design that  will qualify graduates for employment as graphic designers and production artists. Students  will be able to apply all essential aspects of graphic design, including design principles and processes, creativity, aesthetic sensibilities, visual problem-solving, interpersonal communication skills, professional conduct, current technical skills, as well as social and global responsibility.

The Graphic Design Occupational Program prepares students to be creative, employable graphic designers while earning a two year A.S. Degree. This Program is an accredited institution member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).

Individual creative development, artistic expression and visual problem solving with emphasis on production and technical skills required by employers in today’s graphic design profession are stressed. All the courses within the major are completely hands-on with current industry-standard applications, such as:

  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • Dreamweaver 
  • Muse

Students will gain practical, real-world experience by working on a variety of print and web based projects for actual clients around the campus and the community. Students will design:

  • Logos
  • Posters
  • Brochures
  • Websites
  • Magazine Page Layout
  • Advertising Layout
  • Typography
  • Illustration
  • Portfolio Development

Graduates of the Graphic Design Program find employment with a variety of companies, such as:

  • Design Studios
  • Advertising Agencies
  • Apparel design companies
  • Screen-printing and Sign Companies
  • Book, Magazine and Newspaper Publishers
  • In-house design for manufacturing companies, hospitals and universities
  • Self-employed freelance graphic designers
