Military Education Program

The Vincennes University Military Education Program offers classes exclusively for the military on military installations. The beginning and end of its operation is dependent on an agreement with base commanders. The leadership of the military education office requests specific programs in specific locations. The foundation of the program is giving the Military student access to a college education by combining a variety of learning experiences that apply toward completion of an associate degree. In addition to our on-site degree programs, we offer one-credit hour weekend courses. These classes are taught in a hands-on seminar format, 7 hours on Saturday and 7 hours on Sunday. The purpose of these courses is to update and improve both military and personal skills to aid in military promotion and college success. They also count toward the general elective requirement for degree completion and are considered in-residence courses by Vincennes University.

In order to provide increased access to degree completion, we offer the following opportunities for the Military student enrolled in our program:

1. After successful completion of 1 course with Vincennes University, we will evaluate the student's military experience using a customized METEC computer program and award college credit based on the American Council on Education's (ACE) recommendations.

The student will receive a transcript that includes credit received from in-residence courses, experiential learning (Military) credit, transfer credit from other accredited colleges, and DANTES and CLEP tests, with proper documentation (official transcripts).

The student also receives a degree plan (SOCAD/SOCNAV agreement) for an Associate Degree.

2. Vincennes University has approved a 6 hour in-residence requirement for Military (SOCAD) students. At least 15 semester hours of college coursework from accredited colleges and universities must be completed, at least 6 hours of which must be earned through Vincennes University courses.

A Distance Learning Program is available to aid Military students in completing degree and in-residence requirements. Internet, Correspondence/Internet Assisted, Correspondence/ Technology Assisted (videotape/audio cassette), and Independent Study Correspondence delivery offer degrees and a wide range of courses to students anytime.
