HEAD COACH DAVID RAGLAND  Ragland 08-09 for Web site  

Coach David Ragland is in his first season at the Trailblazers' helm, after a three-year stint as an assistant.

During that time, the Trailblazers compiled a 79-20 record.

Prior to his arrival at VU, Ragland spent one season at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX, helping that program put together a school record 25-5 season.

As a player, Ragland was named Southern Indiana Player of the Year during his senior season at Harrison Harrison. He helped Harrison earn a 21-3 record, including a Class 4A semistate appearance. Ragland began his collegiate career at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO. During his freshman season, the Lions posted a 30-3 record and made it to the NCAA Division II Final Four.

Following his sophomore season at Missouri Southern, Ragland returned home to play for the University of Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles compiled a 47-14 record during his two seasons there.

Ragland resides in Vincennes with his wife, Annie, and daughter, Ava.

 

ASSISTANT COACH BRIAN DAVIS

Davis 08-09 for Web siteCoach Brian Davis is in his fourth season with the Trailblazers.

During his previous three seasons, the Trailblazers have sent 11 players to the Division 1 level and Davis' efforts with the program have included recruiting, directing VU summer basketball camps, organizing the Inaugural Trailblazer Shootout, game and opponent scouting and coordinating the team's travel.

Davis was previously a coach at Lawrenceville and Robinson high schools in Illinois and at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington, KY. He was an integral part of the 2002 Robinson squad that assembled a 29-3 record and reached the Elite 8. Davis was also on the staffs of a number of prestigious basketball camps throughout the country, including camps at Indiana University and the University of Kentucky, as well as the Ron Felling Shooting Camps prior to joining the Vincennes staff.

As a player, Davis was a member of the 1995 All-North Egypt Conference Basketball Team while leading tradition-rich Lawrenceville (IL.) High School to two regional and conference championships. He then went on to attend Vincennes University and the University of Kentucky, earning a degree in health promotion with a minor in psychology.

He resides in Vincennes with his wife Jennifer, who is also employed at VU.

  

  ASSISTANT COACH JOHN STOOKSBURY

Stooksbury 08-09 for Web site

Coach John Stooksbury is in his first season with the Trailblazers after working as an assistant coach at Motlow State (TN) Community College last season and spending two years in the same position at his alma mater, Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. He helped Motlow to a school-record 28-5 slate last winter and a Top-15 NJCAA ranking.

Stooksbury played two years at Motlow's rival Walters State Community College, helping the Senators to a Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association tournament title, along with two Top-10 national rankings each season. The Senators were also participants in the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, KS. In 2002, Walters State finished eighth in the tournament.

Stooksbury transferred to Lincoln Memorial University to finish out his college basketball career. He graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing. He completed his master's degree in business administration at Lincoln Memorial University in 2007.

 

 

 

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH FRANK LEWISLewis 08-09 for Web site

Frank Lewis has been the strength and conditioning coach for the VU Men's Basketball program since 2004. He has also trained the VU Lady Trailblazers since 2005. He joined the programs at the invitation of former Trailblazers Coach Everick Sullivan, who first met Lewis as a teammate in summer pro-am basketball leagues, and then trained with him during Sullivan's professional basketball career.

Originally from Louisville, KY., Lewis has been a licensed massage therapist since 1996. Prior to his arrival at VU, he was the strength and conditioning coach and team massage thereapist at (Louisville) Pleasure Ridge Park High School from 2000-08, and he was the massage therapist for the Louisville Fire of the Arena2 Football League from 2001-07.

Lewis' work with VU athletes has contributed to nine players going on to play at Division I programs while the Trailblazers racked up 79 victories and made two consecutive NJCAA tournament appearances.

 

 

 

ATHLETIC TRAINING DEPARTMENT CHAIRPERSON

ROBERT CULLEN

The 2008-09 season is Cullen's 19th year as a Certified Athletic Trainer in the Sports Medicine Program at Vincennes University. He is a native of and lives in nearby Bicknell, IN, and a graduate of North Knox High School. He is a 1987 VU graduate and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University.

MARK GOODRICH

The 2008-09 season is the 22nd year Goodrich has served as a Certified Athletic Trainer for Trailblazer athletic teams. He has an associate's degree in physical education from Vincennes University and bachelor's and master's degrees from Indiana State University.
