The Vincennes Blazer Baseball program will offer high school players an opportunity this winter to exhibit their skills to college baseball coaches while picking up valuable instruction to make their performance even better.
The 2008-09 VU Winter Baseball Camps will feature hitting camps on December 14 and January 10 and pitching/catching camps on December 13 and January 11. All four small-group sessions will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the VU baseball field, weather permitting. If necessary, camps will be moved indoors at VU’s Beless Gymnasium.
During the pitching/catching camps, VU Baseball staff and players will provide instruction to pitchers in the mechanics of and effective mental approach to pitching, fielding practice, general drills, proper stretching, arm care and proper long toss practices. Also, pitchers will be able to throw 20-25 pitches off the mound, have their arm strength gauged with a radar gun and discuss pitching philosophy.
Catchers will catch live pitching and spend their time during the camp sessions focusing on proper stance and signal calling, receiving and blocking pitches, framing pitches, fielding bunts, catching pop-ups, force/tag plays at the plate and throwing to bases (including being timed and gauged with a radar gun).
Hitters will work on swing mechanics including the proper stance, stride and weight shift. The hitting sessions will also include drills in hitting off a tee, soft-toss, bunting and situational hitting. In addition, the philosophy of hitting will be discussed.
Camp participants are responsible for their shoes (indoor and outdoor), baseball pants, glove, bat and cap. Also, catchers should bring their own gear to each session.
The fees for the VU Winter Baseball Camps are $40 for pre-registration and $45 for registration the first day of the camp. The fee includes a camp t-shirt. Checks should be made payable to:
