Local youngsters will have a Merrier Christmas, thanks to the work of Vincennes University students. Beginning several years ago, members of VU's SATA started working on it's annual "Cookies in a Jar" project. The students last year produced and sold approximately 150 jars of M&M and Chocolate Chip Christmas Cookie Mix and provided gifts for nearly 20 youngsters. The ingredients are layered in canning jars and topped with Christmas material and ribbon for a festive gift. The jars are sold for $8.00 each or 3 for $20.00 with 100% of the profit going toward gifts for the children.
"This is a big job making the jars," said Robert Cullen, faculty advisor for the Athletic Training Association. "The students spend hours and hours putting these jars together and many more hours delivering them on campus. It's a 3 step process: make the jars, sell them, and then use the proceeds to shop for and wrap presents for the children. It is amazing to too see the students faces when they are shopping for and wrapping the presents."
How you can help: For this project to be successful, we need your help. If all the jars and ingredients are donated we can spend one hundred percent of the profits on the kids. Many of your students will be coming home at some point in the next few weeks. It would be greatly appreciated if you would send donations to the Athletic Training Room, located in the PE Complex or call and we can pick them up .
Items we need are Mason or Ball jars, red and green M&M's, chocolate chips, flour, and white and brown sugar.
If you would like to make a purchase or donate items just call Robert Cullen @ 888-4591.
