CEN 209 Making Greeting Cards & More!
Learn the art of rubber-stamping and embellishing for creating one-of-a-kind greeting cards, gift tags, treat bags, and more. Rubber-stamping is one of today's most popular crafts. If you have already been introduced to this hobby, or whether you are brand new to the craft, you will enjoy this class. Put an end to running out to purchase an expensive card, and at the same time impress your friends with a handcrafted card made just for them. This class will meet on two Monday evenings and have a hands-on workshop format. Students will make-and-take 6 projects, all of which will have spring themes. Phyllis Richardson, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and long-time craft-a-holic, will show you how easy and fun this art can be. Cost of the class includes all necessary materials.

CEN 267 Dog Obedience
Learn how to control your dog by teaching him/her the basic commands of heel, sit, stay, down, and come. Work with a show-dog trainer in a group setting. Dog must be at least six-months old. Pam Kershner does not teach the dogs but does teach the owners how to get the dog to obey the owner’s commands. Pam has been grooming and showing dogs for over 20 years.

CEN 405 Beginning Digital Photography
Are you still living in an analog world? Do you feel that you are out of touch with what is happening in the digital era? Would you like to upgrade your old standby analog camera with a new state-of-the-art digital camera but are afraid to do so because you feel intimidated by things electronic? Well, now is your chance to take that step forward by enrolling in our Beginning Digital Photography class. The class will cover the basics of digital cameras including how to decide what features to look for when purchasing a new camera, how to use it, how to save images to memory, printing, saving to a CD or DVD, basic editing, and much more. Students should have a digital camera with the capability to download to a USB port. The instructor, Angela Lucas has had extensive experience in photography, including digital photography, has more than 10 years experience in the field, and owns her own photography business.

CEN 501 Ceramics for the Beginner
In this class the emphasis will be on fun! The instructor, Barry Barnes, intends to create a laid back atmosphere and will cater to the beginner. Novice students who want their time in the studio to be a bit more serious are welcome as well. The student will learn how to make pots on the potter’s wheel and learn hand building techniques to construct ceramic forms. The student will also learn the art of glazing their work and assist instructor with loading and firing of their work in the Kilns. At the end of the 8-week session the student will a have a general knowledge of materials and techniques along with variety usable pots or interesting ceramic sculptures. The ceramic studio is a fun and safe place to work and is based on a community setting. The instructor, Barry Barnes, is an Adjunct Professor of Ceramics at VU. He earned the MFA from Arizona State University, and has been teaching for the past 16 years. A basic tool kit and 15 pounds of clay is included in the price.

CEN 502 Intermediate Ceramics
This class will be the continuation of CEN 501. Students will continue to learn about the ceramic process and advance their abilities on the potter’s wheel and with hand building techniques. Students will explore in greater depth the basic ceramic techniques that were taught in Ceramics for the Beginner. Students will develop their confidence in their skills and will have the pots or ceramic sculpture to prove it.

CEN 575 Golf for Beginners
Always wanted to learn how to play golf? Afraid of the potentially high fees charged by golf professionals? Learn the basics of golf from a seasoned golfer, Dale Dowden. Dale has played golf for over 40 years, and is a veteran educator. Let him show you the way to an enjoyable pastime. Participants should wear either tennis shoes or golf shoes, and must have their own golf clubs. The course fee includes all of the balls used during the class.

Swing dancing: As easy as steps, spins, and turns. Impress your friends with your smooth moves after taking this class. The instructors, Elizabeth and Marc McNeece, have taken several ballroom and swing dance classes, and swing dance has been an active part of their lives for more than a decade.

CEN 837 Middle Eastern Dance
This course will introduce you to the fundamental movements of what Americans call belly dance. We will cover basic stance, part isolations, and upper and lower-body dance moves. This ancient dance form was created by women, for women, and though at times sensual, is not meant to be erotic. Previous dance experience is not necessary. Dress comfortably. The instructor, Lori Netti, has studied and performed Turkish, Egyptian, cabaret and folk style dancing for more than five years. She is currently studying and dancing with a troupe in Vincennes.

CEN 839 Tai Chi
Learn the slow, relaxed movements of Tai Chi for total self development. For the body, it is an excellent exercise; for the mind, it enhances concentration and visualization. For the soul, it is a system of spiritual meditation. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Dr. Richard Walter, the instructor, has been practicing Tai Chi for over a decade and has been teaching for more than 7 years.

CEN 876 Introduction to Medicaid Planning
Nearly 2/3 of nursing home care in Indiana is paid for by Medicaid. On average, a single person in a nursing home exhausts his or her assets in 13 weeks. This course will provide an introduction to the rules for obtaining Medicaid eligibility for nursing home residents. Through discussion of these rules, you will learn about planning strategies for nursing home care in the future, for persons currently in the nursing home, single persons, married persons, persons with minimal assets, and persons with substantial assets. Daniel L. Siewers has a law degree and has attended seminars, which concentrated on Medicaid planning. He has assisted numerous clients obtain Medicaid eligibility.

CEN 877 Wills and Trusts
Learn the basics about Wills and Trusts, what they are, how they operate, what assets are affected by their use, and how you can use them to accomplish your financial goals. Mark Ewing has been a practicing attorney for over 25 years in the areas of Wills and Trusts. He has a Master of Law Degree in Taxation from New York University, served as President of the Taxation Section of the Indiana State Bar, and is a frequent lecturer on topics of estate planning and taxation. He is also former Chairman of the Vincennes University Wills, Trusts, and Ethics Institute.

Beginners will learn to preserve their photos safely in albums to enjoy for years to come. Both beginners and advanced students will learn how to use scrapbook tools, short cuts and the importance of journaling their stories along with their photos. Students should bring their photos, memorabilia, and supplies they wish to use in their albums. If they do not have an album or supplies, Creative Memories products may be purchased at the first class. The instructor, Joni Dickerson, has been a Creative Memories consultant for more than 6 years, and has taught this course at VU for 5 years.

CEN 914 Basic Wine Appreciation
Did you know there are vineyards in Knox County? This introductory course will include the basics of winemaking, the differences between red and white wines, how to select the proper wine, and how wines may be used to enhance your recipes. A tour of Windy Knoll Winery will be given and a variety of wines will be sampled. Only students 21 years of age and older may enroll. The instructor, Rick Leser, is a professional wine maker and owner of the winery.
